Halloween 2010

HUGE thanks to Hachi or saving the otherwise failure of a Halloween party.

Anyway.

My outfit for Halloween.

tumblr

I don't have a tumblr myself (I have a soup instead) but there are a few tumblrs that I like to go back to for inspiration. I wanted to share my favourite ones here.

I tried to divide them into categories but as you will see sometimes they're a little arbitrary.

Dark fashion

Frequently updated blog for adult goths, full of high fashion photos and mostly with a grown up feel.

Less frequent updates but still worth looking at.

Not really a fashion blog at all. But some of the girls have beautiful make-up, tattoos and interesting hairstyles, so I thought I might include it anyway.

Again something for grown up goths. Lovely stuff.

Not all of the images are fashion related but most are.

Most of the time it's a little too old-school goth for me but there are some interesting images too.

Romantic fashion

Not just fashion, and not just romantic. But in comparison to the "dark fashion" blogs, this one seemed to fit this category better.

High fashion

Beautiful fashion photography, not really fitting into any of the above categories.

Perhaps this one should be in the "dark fashion" category?

Designer specific

Hasn't been updated since April but you still might want to look though what had been posted.

Dedicated to Alexander McQueen.

Fuck Yeah!

Japanese or Japan-inspired fashion

Street snaps of stylish people. Very inspirational.

A mixture of different styles. Gyaru, lolita, cosplay, visual kei, mori and decora tumbled into one.

Not exactly a fashion blog, but many of the images are fashion related.

If you know any other interesting fashion tumblrs, please share!

new project

I am currently working on a new dress, and even though I'm only starting I can already tell that it's going to be my most time-consuming project so far.

Here is the basic design.
The design you see at the bottom? Not a border print, no. Embroidery.

It's going to take me forever to finish this piece. To be honest I don't even remember the last time I embroidered anything. And I don't think I've ever tried doing anything like this.
The dress is going to be red, and the embroidery and the tiered underskirt are both going to be black. Not a very unique colourway, but a nice one.

I've already finished embroidering the first, central, panel. It took me 5 days. Now I only have 6 more to go! I hope that with time I'll get faster, since I won't be that inexperienced by the 7th panel.

Wish me luck!

Lolita - 5 things I love about it

1. Dark romanticism

Maybe punk lolita was the first style I liked, but the dark romantic styles were what made me stay. I describe it as "dark romantic" instead of "gothic" or "classic" because what I mean is really something in between. Not every classic outfit and not every gothic outfit would fit into my idea of dark romanticism.

Lolita in Secret challenged me; Lolita Pet Peeves!

It's not a strictly lolita blog, I wanted it to be a general personal fashion blog, but what the hell.

Here it is. My top 5 lolita pet peeves. They're not in any particular order other than the order of them coming to my mind.

1. Blouseless coordinates

Some dresses look great without a blouse, especially those with wider straps, like Princess Drop.
Other dresses don't look so good. Especially if they have very thin straps or are strapless. It's OK if you wear your dress as a sundress. After all, the fact that it was made by a lolita brand doesn't mean that you can only wear it with strictly lolita coordinates. Some dresses, especially those by Emily Temple Cute, can look really cute with sandals, straw hat, no blouse, no socks and no petticoat. But if you decide to wear a lolita coordinate and you even wear socks or tights then there's just no balance in your outfit. You're fully covered from toes to... arms. It doesn't make much sense.

Outfit post

I went out yesterday to a 70s and 80s themed party. I decided not to dress up according to the theme though. Hardly anyone did, so that was OK.
Instead I had a theme of my own for my outfit. I wanted to combine contrasting items. The heavy fur on my boots with the delicate lace on my skirt. The short and rather sexy skirt with the cute top.

I got this skirt last Christmas but yesterday I wore it for the first time. I never had any idea what to wear it with but I think I finally found things that actually look good with it. Or at least I hope so.

Outfit post

For some reason I can't take a good photo recently. They're either blurry or I look silly in them. Or both.
Anyway, I guess you can see the outfit here, so that's OK.

These are my first flat boots in... forever.

Outfit post - classic lolita

It was my friends's birthday a couple days ago and she invited a few people for sushi on Sunday. That's my outfit from that day.

Outfit post - GUILD

My outfit from the GUILD gig I mentioned. I didn't take any pictures in Warsaw. Thankfully I took one when planning what to pack.

I wore a wide black belt with a bow. You probably can't see it too well here. Well, that's the only non blurry picture I managed to take...

And a picture of my accessories because they were the main focus of the outfit.
dress: H&M
boots: QUAZI
accessories: mostly Bijou Brijitte and some random places

19th century love

The ballet I mentioned in the previous post was "Chopin. Artysta romantyczny" ("Chopin. The romantic artist") and since it was based on Chopin's life we got to see a collection of wonderful 19th century inspired costumes.

And since I probably spent more time staring at the costumes than I should have, I wanted to post some photos here.
They all come from the Grand Theatre's official website.

Outfit post - theatre

I've just got back from Warsaw! I went there for two reasons: to see GUILD, a visual kei band, and to see a ballet at the Grand Theatre.
For now just a quick mobile phone snap from the theatre.

I'm not wearing a green belt. It's black with white polka dots. I don't know why it looks green here.

cardigan: H&M
belt: Mohito
headband: C&A

Lolita wishlist

My lolita wishlist. It's not really a complete list. This is just a mostly unrealistic list of the things I want the most. I focused only on skirts and dresses, otherwise the list would go on forever!

EDIT
I crossed out the things I'd already bought.

Polyvore

I've just discovered the fun of using Polyvore and decided the make some outfits with the dresses I'm currently lusting over.

First, Operetta Bouquet by Alice and the Pirates. It's never been my style but... I think I'm getting more and more into the mori/dolly inspired version of lolita, with its flowers and earthy colours.

And two similar outfits with Queen's Coach, also by Alice and the Pirates. I'm not so happy with them but I'm still new to Polyvore and still have some problems finding the items I want.

Spirit Day

It is, in a way, fashion-related, and it's important, so here it goes.

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbours and schools.

RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. (bottom)

REBLOG to spread a message of love, unity and peace.

Outfit post

Generally, I don't like wearing the exact same outfit twice. I always try to change something. It's so easy to change a coordinate with just a belt, or a different pair of shoes, so why stick to the same version over and over again?

But there are a few outfits that I like so much that I wear them once in a while, not too often though, and still don't get bored.

Old pictures because it didn't make sense to take new ones.

outfit post - new sweater

A simple outfit with the new sweater.

Yesterday's shopping

Despite my cold I decided to go shopping yesterday. Oh, joy.

I usually end up buying useless junk at Bijou Brigitte or some other accessory shop. This time, however, I managed to buy only and exclusively what I was looking for! Success!

First, a basic black cardi from H&M.

I need some more basic items that I could easily coordinate with... anything, really.
This one is from the children's section, which means that it was only 50% of the price of an almost identical cardigan in the women's section. The size is described as 164 cm, and that's pretty much my size since I'm not much taller than that.

Secondly, a deliciously oversized sweater, also from H&M.

It's super wide, super long and just generally huge and I love it. I can wear it with leggings and a wide belt to give it the right shape. You can dress it up however you want to. Sparkly printed leggings? Huge necklace? Fun belt? You name it! It's really versatile and I need more versatile items in my closet.

I also have my eyes on a gray oversized sweater with a lovely wide neckline. Maybe next time.

Monday 4 October 2010

hello and welcome

Welcome to my fashion-centred blog. This will be mostly my personal fashion blog. I'll post photos of my daily outfits, write about shopping and sometimes I might rant about designers that I either love or hate. I probably won't write that much, though. You can expect to see more pictures than text here.

A few words about me. I'm a girl in my 20s currently living in Poland. I'm partial to the darker and feminine side of fashion and am a big fan of Japanese street styles. Occasionally I dress lolita, usually either gothic or classic. I don't limit myself to one style though, so you might see many types of outfits here.

For now, just one photo:

I hope you'll enjoy this blog!
